In June and July, R+W built the world’s largest mechanical coupling with an outer diameter of 4,000 mm. Guinness is still checking whether it qualifies for the World Record as the “world’s biggest mechanical torque limiter”. The safety coupling – an STF 20.000, 470 mm long – is destined to protect two six-megawatt engines in future. The outer diameter measures a scarcely believable 4,000 mm while the inner diameter is 700 mm. The manually engaging coupling has a (torque) adjustment range of 15,000 to 20,000 kNm and works at speeds of between 0 and 20 rpm. The giant weighs a hefty 21,500 kg. Impressive facts that are surely worthy of a world record.
