ADE WERK Products
A core area of expertise for ADE-WERK is the development of electric linear actuators for the operation of sluice gates in shipping canals. Since the first installation in 1995, there are now over 900 drives of this type supplied by ADE-WERK in use throughout mainland Europe. As part of the ADE-WERK solutions, the AUMA multi-turn actuators can be incorporated to provide a geared motor solution with positioning control and functionality. Drive Lines are a UK distribution partner for AUMA, and can incorporate their components as part of your flood and water management application.
Drive Lines are exclusive agents in the UK for Grob Antriebstechnik screw jacks. Screw jacks are used wherever controlled lifting, lowering and slewing is required. They can be installed singly, in pairs or as part of a multiple jack system.

Manual override and emergency power tools
Hand-wind manual operation is also an option for ADE-WERK and AUMA products, should power be lost in an emergency situation or for maintenance operations. Opening and closing the gate can require many handwheel turns, which can be difficult and take considerable time. Flood Defence – Ipswich Mitre Gates
Drive Lines Technologies were recently part of the manufacturing and design process for part of the Ipswich Flood Defence Management Scheme (FDMS). Hunton Engineering Ltd. were commissioned to provide Volker Stevin contractors with a mitre gate solution with flap seals, designed to protect against flood risks.
As part of the new multi-faceted FDMS, the gate was to be electrically and mechanically driven and controlled as an important component of the larger flood defence scheme.
Having rejected the idea of a chain drive due to the unsightly portal frame involved, two possible solutions were considered. One involved hydraulics, the other the use of screw jacks. The hydraulic solution was disregarded due to environmental factors and the danger of contamination in the river it the hydraulics should leak. This left the preferred choice the use of screw jacks.
The ground on either side of the River Tauber was excavated to conceal the mechanism and to provide a robust foundation for the bridge ends.
